Who I am--This is pretty simple. I am a guy who loves to fish and make Muskie lures. I was born and raised in the Minnesota outdoors and today I am fortunate enough to live within a few minute drive to two awesome lakes, Lake Minnetonka and Lake Waconia. I hand make all of my lures, and I love getting out on the water to try new ideas. Ideas that may help put that "big girl” into your hands.
My Process--I
feel that there is nothing worse than getting all excited about that
nice new lure, only to find out that it’s a colorful chunk of driftwood.
To ensure that doesn’t happen to you, each of my lures is hand painted,
coated and assembled, and then brought out to the lake for a quick turn
to ensure that they are working well before you take it out on the water.
Where It All Started--I started fishing with my family in my hometown of Chaska, MN. Fishing was a huge family oriented activity, and the source of many of my childhood memories. At that time fishing was also big in our neighborhood, where most of the kids would fish on the Minnesota River or in the local clay holes. I started making my own lures at the age of 12, after I took a class in school on jig making and fly tying. We were actually allowed to melt and pour hot lead into molds in class, which you wouldn’t be allowed to do today! Then I would paint the jig by hand and tie bucktail onto it. I caught my first Walleye on these hand tied jigs. Twenty five years later my Muskie fishing hobby became a large part of my life, and as I started to get more serious about it I took my old seeds of "DIY lures” and started Big Mama Lure Co.
To this day, the thing I like most about creating lures is hearing my customers talk about personal adventures with them. This is especially true with kids who catch their first Muskie on a Big Mama Lure. Seeing the look on their face as they recount the battle… seeing the pictures they send with the smile from ear to ear… reading their story… How do I describe the feeling of knowing that I helped in that adventure? Priceless!
I hope everyone that uses my products has as much fun using them as I have making them!
