As for sensitivity, it doesn’t matter whether you plunk, drift-fish from shore, or use a boat: knowing what’s going on at the end of your line is absolutely crucial for successful steelheading. These fish may be big, but for the most part their bite is incredibly subtle. That’s why we design these rods with a fairly soft tip and the most sensitive materials possible. Select the rod that matches your angling situation and be sure to give careful consideration to the different levels of graphite performance available. |

STR1024C Length: 8'6" Power: 4 Pieces: 2 Casting A good winter-run rod. A great summer-run rod. In other words, our best all-around steelhead rod. This is an especially good choice for fishing small to medium-sized rivers where you have sufficient room to work a fish once it's hooked. It balances perfectly with ten pound line and 1/2-ounce lures, and it's surprisingly strong. Strong enough, in fact, to handle most smaller salmon species.

STR1024S Length: 8'6" Power: 4 Pieces: 2 Spinning A good choice for fishing small to medium-size rivers where you have sufficient room to work a fish once it's hooked. Best suited for 8 or 10-pound line and 1/2-ounce lures, this rod is surprisingly strong. It will handle most smaller salmon species and steelhead, but it's on the lighter end of the spectrum.

STR1025C Length: 8'6" Power: 5 Pieces: 2 Casting This winter steelhead rod provides the extra power necessary to fish higher water conditions and swifter currents. On average, winter steelies run larger than their summer cousins, so the extra backbone is a big advantage. Rated for up to 17-pound line, the 1025C is beefy enough for Chinooks, but better suited to chums, sockeyes and cohos.

STR1025S Length: 8'6" Power: 5 Pieces: 2 Spinning Designed for winter steelhead, where you need a little more backbone due to the larger weights required to fish high water conditions, the 1025s has sufficient power to fish salmon, best suited for silvers and chums. Because it has the power to move fish and bring them boat-side without a chase, this is a good choice for both boat and bank fishing.

STR1082C Length: 9' Power: 2 Pieces: 2 Casting The 1082C is a very nice light-action summer-run steelhead rod, designed to fish 6 to 10-pound line in low, clear water conditions. It has a light, responsive tip with a fairly soft midsection that allows you to lob small lures or bait to spooky fish. The butt section, however, is still fairly powerful, allowing you to handle large fish as well. While it's designed with light line applications in mind, this rod can also handle small salmon on 10-pound test, which makes it a nice option for low-water fall fishing.

STR1082S Length: 9' Power: 2 Pieces: 2 Spinning Same specs here as on the 1082C, only in a spinning rod. Perfect for summer-run steelies in low, clear water conditions and 6 to 8-pound line.

STR1083C Length: 9' Power: 3 Pieces: 2 Casting A specialty rod designed to fish large summer-run steelhead rivers and late summer/early fall low-water conditions in coastal ^STReams for salmon. It fishes optimally with 10-pound line, giving you a little better leverage on big fish, but still allows you to downsize for clear water situations. It has the power to handle a twenty pound silver or chum and still let you drop down to 6-pound test if you need to. A good all-around drift rod.

STR1083S Length: 9' Power: 3 Pieces: 2 Spinning Like its casting cousin this new spinning version of the 1083 is designed for big summer-run steelies and small salmon. It balances nicely with 8 to 10-pound line, allowing you to downsize your baits and lures in clear, low-water conditions. In fact, you can drop all the way down to 6-pound test, yet still have the power to handle a 20-pound steelhead. A good all-around drift rod, and a better-than-average spoon rod for big western rivers.

STR1084C Length: 9' Power: 4 Pieces: 2 Casting As you travel north through steelhead country, rod lengths gradually increase (by the time you get to Canada, you're up to 12 feet or more), but when you look at the techniques involved it's easy to see why. Float fishing requires long rods to handle the floats and long leaders. Fishimg the Cowlitz River in west central Washington-just up the road from G.Loomis-you've hit 9-foot country, and that's where this rod shines. It handles the long leaders and light leads required for the low, clear water of summer, and the heavier gear needed to fish the high, green water of winter. The graphite is IMX, because sensitivity is paramount and overall weight is an important factor, especially in a longer rod.

STR1086C Length: 9' Power: 6 Pieces: 2 Casting While technically this is a big-water steelhead rod, its 9 feet of muscle give you plenty of flexibility for almost any sea-run species, including big Chinook salmon. If you fish Alaska or any of the big rivers of Washington and Oregon, it's a great drift rod that will handle big plugs pretty well, too. Forced to upsize your weights and line due to high water conditions? This is a great choice.

STR1141S Length: 9'6" Power: 1 Pieces: 2 Spinning The ultimate light-line steelhead drift rod. The perfect action to handle 6-pound line and a subtle power, much like a fly rod, that tires fish quickly. We originally designed this rod for the western technique known as boondogging. The technique requires a more forgiving rod, because the fish will drop the bait the minute it feels any resistance. Consequently, this rod is soft enough to let you "see" the ^STRike before the fish has time to react. Agood bank rod, a great boat rod!
STR1143C Length: 9'6" Power: 4 Pieces: 2 Casting A wonderful big-river rod, this is the rod of choice in northern Washington and southern British Columbia. The length allows you to fish a float or use traditional drift fishing methods with artificial eggs, bait and spinners. Boaters like this rod for boondogging the likes of the Skagit and the Cowlitz.

STR1173S-SK Length: 9'9" Power: 3 Pieces: 2 Spinning Here's a Great Lakes steelhead rod, specially designed to fish the brush-lined ^STReams and rivers of the upper Midwest. It has a Skamania-Style handle, which is a fancy way of saying its foregrip is long and its rear grip short. Why? For added leverage and line control, especially with slip-bobber rigs and light splitshot dropper rigs. Because the center of balance is back behind the angler's hand, the reel acts like a counter balance when lifting the rod tip. The extra length also gives you better control, especially with longer leaders.
STR1201S-SK Length: 10' Power: 1 Pieces: 2 Spinning A specialty steelhead rod designed to fish the smaller, ^STReams of the Great Lakes region, where you need a quick hook-set to keep the fish clear of brush and logs. The handle grips are reversed from the traditional western rod styles, with a long foregrip and short rear grip. This lets the angler put his hand ahead of the reel, increasing sensitivity and moving the center of balance back. That way he can lift the rod tip quickly without having to lift the reel. In fact, the reel acts as a counterweight, actually helping to lift the tip.

STR1263C Length: 10'6" Power: 3 Pieces: 2 Casting The extra power of the 1263 will get you steelhead in larger rivers-especially drift fishermen who require long casts to reach those slots on the far bank. This rod is powerful enough for light-duty mooching for silvers, and it's especially good for float fishing.
STR1265C Length: 10'6" Power: 5 Pieces: 2 Casting A powerful, extra-long drift rod designed specifically for the big rivers of British Columbia. While it's basically made for float fishing, it will work equally well using standarddrift gear. Its medium-heavy power rating makes it ideal for silvers and chum salmon as well. Also makes a great downrigger/planer board rod for trolling in the Great Lakes.
STR1265S Length: 10'6" Power: 5 Pieces: 2 Spinning Like the 1265C, this spinning rod was designed for smaller salmon in British Columbia. Works great with float fishing or standard drift gear. And it's a good alternative for downriggers and planer boards in the Great Lakes. Also a perfect rod for casting spoons and spinners from the shore at prime river mouths.
