Then, as finesse fishing came into play, more and more anglers found the spinning rod to be the perfect solution for the clear water lakes where spotted bass and smallmouths abound. The only negative was nobody ever really offered the nice, fast-action rods that the casting crowd enjoyed. That was until we introduced the Spin Jig Series. SJR6400 Length: 5'4" Power: 00 Pieces: 1 Spinning We designed this rod for fishing small spinnerbaits and leadhead jigs in clear rivers and lakes, where a shorter rod is beneficial for both accuracy and presentation. It's also a good choice for vertical jigging over brush piles for crappie in deep water. It's a nice smallmouth rod for rivers, where smaller baits are essential, allowing you to both enjoy smaller fish and handle bigger ones. The magnum taper (meaning the tip's light and the butt's very strong) gives the rod a little more versatility and allows you to use a wider variety of lures. If there were such a thing as a "magnum ultra-light," this would be it.

SJR641 Length: 5'4" Power: 1 Pieces: 1 Spinning Here's a highly specialized rod for vertical jig presentations in rivers and lakes. Designed to handle lighter jigs and jig/worm combinations in relatively shallow water, this shorter-than-normal spinning rod has a fast taper for positive line and lure control, as well as a quick hook set. It casts quite well, and is equally effective for twitching minnowbaits and chugger/poppers.

If you prefer a spinning rod, this makes a really good stick for surface lures like the Pop-R and Spit'n Image. SJR720 Length: 6' Power: 0 Pieces: 1 Spinning This rod incorporates an ultralight tip and a strong butt-section, making it a very good choice for smallmouth or spotted bass-especially where smaller lures and lighter line make a difference. Perfectly balanced for 1/8 ounce grubs and jigs with 6 pound line, this rod is better for swimming jigs than bouncing them on the bottom. This model is perfectly balanced for 8-pound line and 1/4-ounce lures, but it's versatile enough to go up or down a line and still feel good. If you fish a Pop-R or similar surface lure on spinning gear, the 721 is a good choice. It has a soft enough tip to cast lightweight minnow baits, yet enough authority to handle oversized surprises. It's also a good rod for 4-inch "Texas-style" worm rigs or tube jigs. SJR842 Length: 7' Power: 2 Pieces: 1 Spinning Originally, we designed this rod to extend the range of one of our most popular 6-foot Spin Jig Rods (the 722). It shares the same power rating, but that's where the comparison ends. The 842 has a fast taper for long-range casts and the perfect blend of power and feel for deep-water jigging. When you sweep the rod, a lot of line moves-and that makes it a good choice for heavy-duty split shotting and light-duty Carolina rigs. It makes an excellent buzzbait rod if you prefer spin fishing over casting, and the 7-foot length aids in ripping minnow baits over deep-water humps and points. A great choice for northerns and big, deep-water bass, the 843 has a medium-heavy tip and a fast taper that deliver both long range casts and the power necessary to fish Carolina rigs. It's a good deep-water worm and jig rod, especially in tailwater situations where some current is involved. The quick taper gives you better control in the wind and increases hooksetting power for live bait applications. It also makes a nice lightweight striper rod, or if you enjoy simply lounging on the river bank, dunking worms for catfish, well, it'll fit nicely in a forked stick, too. Now that's versatility.

SJR844 Length: 7' Power: 4 Pieces: 1 Spinning This powerhouse spinning rod is as comfortable in freshwater as it is in salt. It's our spin version of a Carolina-rig rod, with more than enough power to fish heavy cover and big jigs. It handles oversized baits well, and you can fly line small crabs a country mile when casting to cruising permit or small tarpon. Bass anglers will enjoy this rod for pitching jigs and worms around brush and tules, and it's powerful enough to sub as a light-duty flipping stick. After northerns and small muskies? SJR941 Length: 7'10" Power: 1 Pieces: 1 Spinning Don't let the "one" power rating fool you. This rod's blank design is unlike any other spinning rod we make, and it's a lot more powerful than its rating sounds. Its unique design features a soft, flexible tip for tossing both bait and lures, but the magnum butt-section is very powerful, giving you total control. It has a lot of uses, but really shines as a light-duty saltwater rod for stripers. Then again, if your ideal day involves parking it on the riverbank and plunking for whatever, this rod also fits that bill perfectly.

A real bass fisherman never, but never admitted using a spinning rod, unless it was for panfish, and even then it was iffy. But times are changing and so are techniques. First out of the closet were the die-hard smallmouth anglers. They favored the spinning rod because they needed lighter line and smaller lures to fool those super cautious brown bass.
