G-Loomis - Hot Shot Rods
 We designed these rods to pull salmon and steelhead plugs like the infamous Hot Shot (hence the name), and that’s still their #1 use. But you’ll see anglers casting them for silvers, trolling them for big Kings or drifting bait with them for steelhead. The rods have light to medium tips and magnum-power butt-sections, which make them excellent casting tools and even better fish-fighting tools.
If you’re unfamiliar, the Hot Shot technique goes something like this: The angler positions his boat at the head of a run and allows the current to pull the plug down to the fish zone. The boat then sweeps across the current so the plug covers the entire width of the river (lure action is then monitored by watching the wiggle of the rod tip). When a fish hits, the magnum butt-section actually sets the hook for you. The boat operator keeps tension on the fish until the angler can grab the rod from the holder. An extremely effective technique and a very versatile rod. |

We designed this extremely fast-action rod specifically to fish in-line spinners for the big Chinook salmon in Tillamook Bay, Oregon. These fish run in excess of 60 to 70 pounds, so you need a rod with extra stiffness and power in the butt-section to move them toward the boat. The 932 features a fairly light tip (in comparison to the rest of the rod) that allows the angler to watch the action of the lure while trolling, or, as in the case of some of the Northwest coastal rivers, back-trolling.

Built with a really fast taper and a magnum-power butt, this rod works well for light-duty backbouncing as well. It casts lures of up to a couple of ounces, no problem, and will handle up to 4 ounces in a trolling/mooching situation.

HSR983C Length: 8'2" Power: 3 Pieces: 1 Casting This is our "mega" plug rod, designed to fish deep-diving salmon and steelhead lures, but specifically developed for Alaska, where you need larger plugs and more lead to be effective. It has a fast taper with a magnum butt. Because it's so powerful, it works well for backbouncing bait anywhere.
