We (Myself, Drewski, and his dad) headed up for Red Lake this past weekend and did pretty good despite some rough conditions. Camped it out at Big Bog Stat Park (Awesome place)! Also, getting out on Friday was a nice change...

We got up to the lake around 2 on Friday afternoon and once we got everything set up and were finally able to get our fishing, it was about 4. We were able to fish for about half an hour before the front moved in and blew us off the lake (we were fishing in a 16'). Only had a couple bites in that time. Ate some dinner, and headed out later as the wind died down. We did OK for the next three hours, getting the hang of things, etc. We found the fish holding to the first break (4-6 fow) and were willing to take a chart. or orange jig, either in 1/8 or 1/4 oz. tipped with a fathead. We ended up that night gettting a handfull of keepers and several more that were over and, surprisingly, a lot of smaller ones that were good to see. Also that night, Drewski pullled out a monster crappie, stretching the tape to 14.5". I'm sure he'll throw a photo up.

The next day, Saturday, was similar, except the wind was really blowing. The fishing started off early in the morning, with Drew catching several walleyes right off the dock in the river. When we decided to head out, there were whitecaps as far as the eye could see, easily topping 3'. We had another guy up there that was kind and plowed us a trail to the north end were the conditions were more favorable for fishing. Fishing was comparable up there, each boat getting enough to have luch that day. Drew also got another crappie, this one a little smaller at 13.5". After we came in, ate lunch, and waited for the wind to calm down once again, we headed out around 5, this time targetting in front of the mouth. Fishing was bettter than the night before, with more big ones to be had, including a couple that touched 21 and 22. No more crappies but the walleyes were holding really shallow this time, almost on top of the 4' break.

On Sunday we woke to rain, and called it a weekend and headed home. It was an awesome trip up to an awesome lake and I can't wait to do it again.

Photos to come soon!
