I tried 3 times this week with no luck on the Minnesota river east of 35W bridge both under the bridge and the first dam east of the bridge. I tried storm swim shads, spoons, mepps spinners, plastic worms on the bottom, corn on the hook on the bottom, streamer and popper flies. no luck at all. I was fishing early afternoon. I was looking to catch anything I could hook.

Try a 1/32oz jighead with a 2" Power Minnow. It seems to always catch something. If you have more current with the rains of late you may have to use a 1/16oz jig.

Good luck,

Thanks, I will have to try that out. Also a very good idea using a lighter weight leader than your main line where I was at. I lost a few lures but I didn't lose my braid.

When you get snagged with Fireline there is a trick to try and free your bait. Tighten up the line and hold the rod at 10o'clock. Pull the line between the reel and first guide like a Bow and release. This snaps the bait and typically jars the bait free.

This little tip will save you money in the long run.

hmmm, I will have to try that as well. I was using my 30 lb braid the one day. My lighter rig has 8 lb mono. I got 30 lb suffix because it was mixed up on the rack and I didnt find out until I put it on my reel. I havn't caught a thing with that rig yet so I thought I would try and put a 12lb mono leader on the end.

I would recommend 10-14lb Fireline. It's incredibly strong but you can still fish smaller baits with this line because of the small diameter. It also allows for crankbaits to dive deeper, quicker.

Good luck,

Which fireline do you recommend? I saw a few different varieties when I went to look. Also, I looked for the power minnows and there seems to be a variety of those as well. Is it the Gulp Alive I should be looking for or the ones the the plastic bags?

I plan on putting braid on my light weight rig next year so between now and then I can look for sales. I love the solid feel of braided compared to mono.

Thanks
