Spent the day guiding yesterday in the North Metro area and we were actually targeting walleyes for a change smile We found the walleyes in the shallows... 4-8 feet of water pitching Gulp! Alive minnows right amongst the weeds and in the pockets/edges.

Water clarity was poor for the most part (1.5 feet visibility). Fish were very aggressive and there was no guessing on whether or not your had a bite. Bite lasted pretty much all day, we just had to pound the shorelines and find the schools. We always caught more than fish when we did find them, it was never a one fish spot.

Nothing big was landed (2 pounds for big fish) but we did hook into a nice walleye that didn't make it into the boat. Not 100% how big it was exactly because of water clarity but we're talking a 5-plus pound fish. Probably caught around 12-15 fish and lost another 6-8 or so in a 4 hour period.

Overall it was a very fun day! We started off the day at 6am on Chisago in search of bass but the bass were not going so we were onto a new lake by 9:30am... that's when we decided to target walleyes. My client lived close to the seecond lake and he wanted to see if a walleye could indeed be caught in there because all of his neighbors were bragging about the walleyes... needless to say it was fun catching walleyes for a change smile

Good luck this weekend to everyone who makes it out! Be safe and have a fun Labor Day!

Sounds like a fun day pitching for walleyes. I plan to give pitching some ringworms into the weeds a try tomorow on a north metro lake. If that fails, then hopefully the sunfish or crappies are biting.

One of these days I will have to give those gulp minnows a workout.

I tried a couple north metro lakes on saturday afternoon pitching into the weed edges and shallow rocks. This produced some nice bass, but no walleyes. I brought along some sucker minnows which also produced a few more hungry bass. The biggest fish hit a ringworm. She was a fat 19"er.

One thing that we had on our side was the water clarity... actually lack there of... less than a foot of clarity so fishing the shallow water was made a little easier...

Had to make a trip back up to my North Metro walleye spot today to see if it was a fluke or not... and I would have to say no smile

We fished the same pattern as a couple weeks back... pitched 3" Gulp! Alive minnows along the weed edges in 4-8 feet of water and they were still there in full-force! Must have landed about 10-12 fish all between 13-19 inches. Didn't get a swing at any large walleyes this trip, but we did manage a few decent bass and a nice 5-6 pound pike mixed in with the walleyes.

We found our best action on shorelines with large shallow flats... this doesn't mean we fished on top of the flats, but it seemed as if the edges of those areas produced the most fish... and once again the fish were highly aggressive with no mistaking a strike.

We fished from about 10am-2pm and we really enjoyed the excellent weather! The wind wasn't a problem because we used it to our advantage on the drift and the speed was about perfect... gotta love these days! smile

Looks like a couple more days of 70's and then the 60's are knocking on our door step...
